Description
Hearing the voices of subcutaneous veins: ...... [Six years after "Can't see anything anyway", this is the first full-fledged collection of his paintings that offers an enjoyment of "the expansion of perception of seeing". About 70 illustrations with a title of his own work. From a single hair to the mass of a person's spirit, Atsushi Suwa draws with a brush power unrivaled by any other artist. The exhibition features the fruits of Suwa's evolution, including his quintessential nudes, a homage to his predecessor in realism, Takahashi Yuichi (Tofu), and a documentary-like work (Abandoned People) that follows in the footsteps of his grandmother who died in Harbin during the war. *Contributed by Thomas Cofer (world-renowned art collector and film director) *Contributed by Noriaki Kitazawa (art critic) Atsushi Suwa Born in Hokkaido, Japan in 1967. After completing the master's program at Musashino Art University, he stayed in Spain as an overseas trainee artist dispatched by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. In 2011, he was featured in NHK Sunday Museum of Art's "Paintings to Remember: Painters Who Draw the Deceased. In 2016, he was featured in the NHK ETV special program "Portrait of Forgotten People: Painter Atsushi Suwa Paints 'Manchurian Refugees'". He is also known as a commentator with a wide range of viewpoints, and currently writes a series of book reviews for Geijutsu Shincho. |
