Nakayoshi Kokeshi are cute kokeshi characters based on the traditional kokeshi dolls of the Tohoku region. The Nakayoshi Kokeshi, mainly through stationery and sundry goods, convey the culture of the Tohoku region and good Japanese culture, including traditional games and lifestyle.

This penny note is a "Nakayoshi Kokeshi Aomori Nebuta Festival" created to commemorate the Tohoku Rokkonsai Festival. It is said that the Aomori Nebuta Festival is probably a variant of the Tanabata Festival's lantern floating ceremony, but its origin is not certain. It is thought that the Tanabata Festival, which came from China in the Nara period (710-794), was combined with ancient customs in Tsugaru, such as sending off spirits, dolls, and insects, and when paper, bamboo, and candles became popular, they became lanterns, which in turn became dolls and fan Nebuta.
