「桜だけを描く」幻の絵師たちと 桜花に憑かれた名大名 三熊思孝、三熊露香、広瀬花隠、織田瑟々、そして松平定信、知られざる桜画約140点をオールカラーで収録。
第一部では三熊派とその作品、第二部では「造園狂」でもあった松平定信を取り上げ手元に密かに遺された桜花図譜等を紹介。

今橋理子(いまはし・りこ)
学習院女子大学教授。学習院大学大学院人文科学研究科博士後期課程修了。
1994年、博士(哲学)。専門は日本美術史(近世絵画史)・比較日本文化論。
博士論文を公刊した著書『江戸の花鳥画?博物学をめぐる文化とその表象』(スカイドア、1995年)で第17回サントリー学芸賞・第46回芸術選奨新人賞を受賞。
著書に『江戸絵画と文学〈描写〉と〈ことば〉の江戸文化史』(東京大学出版会、1999年、第12回國華賞受賞)、『秋田蘭画の近代?小田野直武「不忍池図」を読む』(同、2009年、第二十二回和辻哲郎文化賞受賞)など多数。
