| Gurui baskets are very popular every year. They are used for various purposes depending on the size. The material for Volga baskets is a type of grass that grows wild in grasslands called Napier grass or Elephant grass, which is locally called Nanchem Gulu (Kassena Nankana), Kulukata (Gruni), Kpenpening (Bulk), Kulkara (Dagomba), etc. Kulkara (Dagomba). Most of them seem to grow wild in wetlands near riverside areas or along banks. The weavers cut them and bring them home, cut them to the same length, dye them in many different colors according to their designs, sort them, and store them.
