紅褐色?黄褐色で年輪は明瞭。濃淡な縞模様があり、稀に美しい瘤木が出る。
狂いや割れも少なく、重く硬いが加工性は良い。交差木理なので、逆目が出やすく鉋をかける際は注意が必要。磨くと艶が出るが経年変化は少ない。

家具、器具、楽器、唐木仏壇など。建材としては床柱・床廻り材などに、車輌材としては羽目板・床張、などに用いられる。
