*Kukai (Kobo-Daishi) brought this sandalwood carving treasure from Tang (China).

*The Shoson-butsukan is one of the greatest treasures (national treasures) brought back from Tang China by Kobo-Daishi (Kukai).

*A Buddhist niche is one in which the Buddha image and the kitchen are carved from a single piece of wood.

*This Buddhist altar is made of sandalwood, divided into three parts, and hinged so that it can be opened and closed.

This three-paneled open niche is considered a masterpiece of Tang Dynasty sandalwood sculpture.

This three-paneled open niche is considered a masterpiece of Tang Dynasty danji carving.

When closed, it is suitable for carrying, and is therefore also known as a "pillow-shaped main image".

*The center niche contains a seated statue of Nyorai (the Buddha), ten other statues and two Vajrayana statues, and the left and right niches contain Bodhisattvas and other statues.

Each of the seven deities are carved out with precise technique, as are the tree deities, fire deities, wind deities, and incense burners in the lower section.

*The small area of 23 cm in height is filled with the dense world of the Buddha.

This dense world is carved even more densely within a height of approximately 10 cm.

It is even easier to carry.
