Since ancient times, people in Japan have believed that things called "lucky charms" have the mysterious power to bring happiness. MEDETA MONO DOKUGAKU is a series of glassware that captures the fascinating colors and patterns of traditional dokugaku in various regions of Japan. Hakata Dokugaku: Heaven, earth, and good luck charm [About Hakata Dokugaku] Hakata Dokugaku is said to be the first iron-core spinning top made in Japan, and was so popular during the Edo period that it was performed by the imperial family and shoguns. Gold represents heaven, vermilion represents earth, and green represents man, and is believed to be good for warding off bad luck. It is said that "Heaven, Earth, and Humans" refers to all things in the world, including the universe. Later, it is said that the Edo Dokugaku spread throughout the country. The five colors are said to confer longevity and ward off misfortune. Oyama Koma: for family safety and business prosperity[About Oyama Koma] Since the middle of the Edo period (1603-1868), pilgrimages to Oyama have been a popular form of worship and recreation for the common people of Edo (present-day Tokyo). Pilgrims to Mt. Oyama used to bring back Oyama Koma as souvenirs. The red, indigo, and purple pattern comes from Buddhist ritual utensils, and is meant to promote domestic safety and business prosperity.
