While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, allowing for more realistic and precise detail, just like a photograph.

Utamaro Kitagawa

Born in an unknown place between 1753 and 1806. He learned painting at an early age and attracted attention for his sketch paintings, later gaining popularity for his paintings of beautiful women. [He produced excellent portraits of women by depicting the minute changes in their facial expressions in the form of "large neck paintings. His representative works are [Shisensen Koinobu] and [Fujin Sogaku Jubutai].
