Description
Takeuchi Seiho, Yamamoto Shunkyo, Uemura Shoen, Tsuchida Bakusen... Masterpieces by a total of 54 masters are introduced. Navigate the world of modern Japanese painting in Kyoto with the latest knowledge! The only full-color historical book from the end of the Edo period to the postwar period. This book is an overview of the flow of Japanese painting in modern Kyoto from the end of the Edo period to shortly after the end of the Showa period. In recent years, Japanese-style painting in modern Kyoto has attracted the interest of many people, and exhibitions have been held not only in Kyoto but also in other places, but there is no handy overview of the history of Japanese-style painting in modern Kyoto in a single volume. This book is divided into six chapters, each of which includes an introduction of the artist and a column, so that the flow of modern Japanese painting in Kyoto can be traced along with the changes of the times. The introductions of the 54 painters are in a B5 size, so that the reader can simply look at the paintings. Columns explaining the conditions of the time are also included to deepen understanding while introducing the gems of their works. At the end of each chapter, there is a "Bibliography for those who want to know more" section to broaden understanding, and a "Art World of the Same Period" section that introduces the movement of Japanese painting in Tokyo during the same period, helping readers to understand the movement of Japanese painting in Kyoto from a broader perspective. Genealogical charts, related maps, and a chronology are included at the beginning and end of the book. This definitive work is an easy-to-understand guide to the flow of modern Japanese painting in Kyoto, and we hope that it will be widely used as a valuable resource for future research on the history of modern Japanese painting in Kyoto. Author/ Ayako Ueda, Shinyuki Nakano, Manami Fujimoto, Mitsuhiko Mori |
