The fabric is made of 100% pure linen and stonewashed to give it a vintage look and feel, resulting in a fabric with a tasteful texture and color. [CHARVET EDITIONS] The Industrial Revolution that began in England in the 1830s spread to France and other countries on the continental side of Europe. The Industrial Revolution in France began with technological innovations in the production process of so-called cotton and linen fabrics, and was largely due to the establishment of a factory system based on mechanized carpentry, rather than the handicraft industry that had existed until then. The main factor was the establishment of a factory system based on mechanized carpentry instead of handicrafts, which was particularly noticeable in the Nord department in northern France, facing the Belgian border. The company was founded in 1866 in ARMENTIERE, a small city in the Nord department, close to Belgium. It was established in the middle of the French Industrial Revolution as a factory that shifted from cottage industry to industrial machine production. Some of the lines still continue to use the same machines for more than a century. The products made with old-fashioned machines create a certain unique atmosphere. In the 21st century, the company reigns as one of the leading cotton and linen weaving factories in France, and employs more than a dozen designers who design, weave, cut, and sew their own fabrics, which are exported worldwide. |

1830年代にイギリスに端を発した産業革命は、フランスなどのヨーロッパの大陸側の国々へ順に伝搬していった。フランスでの産業革命は、いわゆる綿、及び麻織物の生産過程における技術革新に始まったもので、それまでの手工業から機械制大工業に基づく 工場体制の確立が主要因となっており、ベルギーとの国境に面したフランス北部のノール県で顕著にみられた。 そのノール県の小都市、ベルギーにほど近いARMENTIEREという都市で1866年に創業。フランスの産業革命の真っただ中、家内制手工業から工業制機械生産にシフトした工場として設立。いまでも1世紀以上にわたり同じ機械を使い続けるラインもあり、 昔ながらの機械で作り上げた商品はある種独特の雰囲気を醸し出している。 21世紀となった今、フランスでも有数の綿、麻織物工場として君臨して、なおかつデザイナーも十数人雇いこみ、自社でデザインから生地の織り込み、裁断、縫製を全て行い、全世界に向けて輸出している。
