Gerhard Richter  
Born in 1932 in Dresden, eastern Germany. He moved to West Germany in 1961, just before the construction of the Berlin Wall, and studied at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. He has continued to pursue the principles of image formation through a variety of expressions, and has received high acclaim both in Japan and abroad. He has had solo exhibitions at the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (1977), Tate Gallery, London (1991), Museum of Modern Art, New York (2002), Tate Modern, London (2011), and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2020). He has steadfastly maintained his position as one of the most important painters of our time.
