The dyeing technique is said to have originated in the Heian period (794-1185), when ink was floated on water and then the pattern was copied on Japanese paper, called "suminagashi e". The gold foil is reminiscent of Japanese washi paper, and the UV-cut finish is recommended for protection against ultraviolet rays. *Kaya*. A fusion of old Japanese traditions and new culture.
