Description
| A photo essay-like collection of sculptor* Akio Omori's works and words. The title "Kotobata (words)" is a word coined by the author. It means "fragments of words carved from his own body" in the course of his creative activities, and is compared to the "wood chips" that scatter in the process of chiseling raw wood and carving out a work of art. [I like people, animals, and things that give me a glimpse of their stories, roots, and backgrounds," says Omori in a passage from this book. Omori creates sculptures that seem to have a life of their own by carefully researching his favorite motifs. His works have a variety of faces, including large statues, mirror images, tables, lamps, and belt buckles. In addition to 91 sculptures, this book includes snapshots of his past works and documentary photographs of the process of carving his new works. The many words of the artist himself that accompany the photographs reveal the image of Akio Omori as a sculptor and, by extension, as a human being.
