Description
*Chieko Shiraishi [Shimakage] Mini Portfolio*. Chieko Shiraishi's (1968- ) [Island Shadows] is a series of various images taken on islands and coastal areas around Japan. All of these images were created using an old retouching technique known as "zokigake," which was popular among Japanese amateur photographers in the 1920s and 1930s. Each image evokes a faded memory, appearing and disappearing in the image as if tracing the photographer's own memory, standing as a pale silhouette against a hazy backdrop of memories. Chieko Shiraishi Born in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Shiraishi began her career as a photographer in the late 1990s, and has exhibited at Gallery Kaido, Gallery Fuyusyo, and other venues. He is also known for his use of a technique called "zokigake," which became popular among amateur photographers in the 1920s and 1930s. He is also known for his use of a technique called "zokogake," which was popular among amateur photographers in the 1920s and 1930s. He attended a collotype workshop at Convenido and won the Jury Prize at the 2023 Convenido Hariban Awards. His photo collections include "Cactus and Tail" (Fuyuseisha), "Shimakage" (Sokyu-sha) and "Shikawatari" (Sokyu-sha). *What is collotype*? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, thus enabling the expression of fine details that more closely resemble the real thing, as in photographs. The *Mini Portfolio Series is a series that focuses on size and set contents so that users can easily enjoy photographic works with the expressive power that only Collotype can offer. Each set contains 8 x 10" sheets of collotype prints, which can be held in your hand and admired one at a time, or framed as a beautiful addition to your home decor. |
