Description
\Newly launched on Wednesday, November 20, 2024/. *Michael Kenna [Shikoku] Portfolio*. Following the release of [Hokkaido] in 2023, we are pleased to announce the release of Michael*Kenna's second mini-portfolio [Shikoku]. This series is based on a pilgrimage to 88 sacred sites in Shikoku, which is associated with Kobo Daishi (Kukai), and is said to take more than 40 days to complete the entire journey, which is approximately 1,400 kilometers long. Kenna has traveled to Shikoku many times since 2003, visiting many sacred sites and photographing the pilgrimage, temples, stone gardens, offerings, lanterns, and stone carved Buddhas from his own poetic point of view. This portfolio includes eight works, creating a series with a different flavor from that of Hokkaido. Michael Kenna Michael Kenna Michael Kenna was born in 1953 in Lancashire, Northwest England. After studying at the London School of Art, he immigrated to the United States in the 1970s and currently resides in Seattle. He has received international acclaim for his works, which are richly poetic and often feature Japan as a favorite subject matter. His work has been collected by more than 70 museums around the world, and he has published numerous books of his photographs. *What is a collotype? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, which makes it possible to express them with fine details that are closer to the real thing, as in a photograph. The *Mini Portfolio Series is a series that focuses on size and set contents so that users can easily enjoy photographic works with the expressive power that only Collotype can offer. Each set contains 8 x 10" sheets of collotype prints, which can be held in your hand and admired one at a time, or framed as a beautiful addition to your home decor. |
