| *Roots in Kashmir Paper Mache Kashmiri paper mache is a traditional Kashmiri artisanal decoration made by tearing paper into small, tiny pieces and gluing them together into molds, which are then beautifully decorated by artisans. Kashmiri paintings that have been drawn for decoration are the roots of this painting. The history of paper mache dates back to around the 15th century. It was made by a Kashmiri prince who was imprisoned in Samarkand at that time, and it was made when he returned to Kashmir. *Painting technique cultivated by history Kashmir boasted high-quality papermaking technology at that time. As the paper industry developed, the demand for pen cases increased along with the demand for pens, both to draw the covers of bound books and because Persian calligraphy was flourishing in the region. 紙を小さく小さくちぎり糊で合わせた型に、職人による美しい装飾を施したカシミール地方伝統のペーパーマッシュ。装飾に描かれてきたカシミールの絵画が、このペイントのルーツになっています。

カシミールは当時、品質の良い製紙技術を誇っていました。製紙産業が発展する中で、製本する際の表紙を描く為と、ペルシャ書道が盛んになっていた背景があり、ペンと共にペンケースの需要が高まりました。
それに伴い、美しい絵画が描かれた、ペーパーマッシュのペンケースが、カシミールで作られるようになります。ムガル帝国時代には、象かごや、部屋の壁面、天井などの装飾にも幅広く普及しました。
■カシミールの絵画が食器に
そんな伝統息づくカシミールで、職人たちがコップやカレー皿などの食器に、手描きしているのがこちらの製品です。
デザインのモチーフには、花や更紗模様、アラベスクなどが取り入れられ、ペルシャの影響を強く受けています。鳥や魚なども描かれますが、基本的に人間は描かれません。カシミールの雄大な山々、美しい湖。周りを取り巻く豊かな自然の中で育まれた芸術品です。
