| *What is [Izumi Blue Stone]? It is the prefectural stone quarried in southern Osaka City. Izumi Blue Stone was also used in the castle walls of Kishiwada Castle, which is designated as a historic site in Osaka. Kishiwada Castle is a castle whose lords changed over time as history unfolded through the Oda, Toyotomi, and Tokugawa periods. It is a fine-grained sandstone found in the Izumi Group of the Late Cretaceous period, extending from the coast to the seabed. This geological formation is distributed along the Central Tectonic Line in southwestern Japan, and its bluish-gray color is known as “Izumi Blue” or “Osaka Blue.” Stone with the same properties is also quarried in Naruto. 和泉青石は、大阪の史跡に指定されている岸和田城の城壁にも使用されています。
岸和田城は、織田、豊臣、徳川時代と移り行く歴史の流れと共に、城主が変わっていったお城です。
後期白亜紀の和泉層群にみられる砂岩で、海岸から海底に広がるキメの細かな石です。
西南日本の中央構造線に沿って分布する地層で、青みがかかった灰色は和泉ブルーや大阪ブルーと呼ばれています。
鳴門で同一の性質のものが採取されます。
