Yoko Kuwasawa is a clothing designer who proposed a "better life" for ordinary people.

Kuwasawa created a clothing design system that has continued to the present day, starting with work clothes during the war and continuing with uniforms and casual wear after the war.

She also founded the Kuwasawa Design Institute and Tokyo Zokei University, and worked with Yusaku Kamekura, Shigeru Tamura, Tadayoshi Sato, Masaru Katsumi, and Takashi Kono as a leading educator in the design world of the time.

Yoko Kuwasawa

Born in Kanda, Tokyo in 1910 and died in 1977.
After working as a reporter for the architectural magazine "Jutaku" (Housing), she became involved in editing "Fujin Gaho" (Fujin Gaho), but World War II broke out.
During the war, he learned dressmaking and left Fujin Gaho in 1942 to open Kuwasawa Clothing Studio, which was destroyed in an air raid.
After the war, he worked as a clothing designer, offering Western-style sewing and style proposals for Fujin Gaho and other magazines.
Under the guideline of "for a better life for ordinary people," he designed work clothes, uniforms, and school uniforms for factories.
He has designed work clothes, uniforms, and school uniforms for factories, proposed the establishment of ready-to-wear sections in department stores, and designed the uniforms for the Tokyo Olympics management staff.
The company also designed uniforms for the Tokyo Olympics.
In 1954, he established the Kuwasawa Design Institute, the first postwar design education school, and later opened Tokyo Zokei University, where he continues to work as an educator.
