| Rabbits and Frogs [fluffy hand towel] Rabbits and Frogs made of double gauze material that is absorbent and pleasant to the touch. Made in Japan. *Tsugao, Kozan-ji Temple, Kyoto, Japan (Artist unknown) *Tsugao, Kozan-ji Temple, Kyoto, Japan A national treasure, a picture scroll handed down in Kozan-ji Temple, Kyoto. It consists of four scrolls, A, B, C and D. A and B are said to have been made in the late Heian period and C and D in the Kamakura period. The emaki is 44 meters long, and the white drawings with ink lines are playful and representative of the world-famous caricatures. It is also considered the oldest [manga] in Japan. The artist is said to be Kakuyu, a Toba Buddhist priest, but there is no proof. |
