This book contains 125 hand paintings by 60 Ukiyo-e artists, including Iwasa Matabee, the pioneer of Ukiyo-e, Hishikawa Shigenobu, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, Katsushika Hokusai, and Utagawa Kuniyoshi. We hope you will experience the 300-year history of Ukiyo-e through these paintings, which are the origin of Ukiyo-e, and enjoy the skillful pull of line, the magic of color, and the spirit of the brush that inhabits each artist's work. Masato Naito Art historian; Art historian. Born in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture in 1963, he received his master's degree from Keio University in 1988. After working as chief curator at the Idemitsu Museum of Arts, he assumed his current position. His main research theme is Ukiyo-e* Rimpa school of the Edo period. |
