Description
A collaboration between French designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and traditional Japanese Kokeshi doll craftsmen from Tohoku, Japan. Kokeshi Dolls by French designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec The Japanese traditional handicraft "Kokeshi" has been designed with a new concept. Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec are collectors of books on Japanese folk crafts, and this collaboration with kokeshi craftsmen in Tohoku has been realized through the East Japan Project. Of all the Japanese crafts, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec chose kokeshi dolls, which use a traditional method of production that has remained virtually unchanged in form and technique for a hundred years. Kokeshi dolls have been loved in Japan for a long time. Kokeshi dolls are painted and stand quietly as figurines, but Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec have given them one more joint to make them move. Kokeshi Kokeshi Dolls bowing is very funny and their appearance is a tribute to the unbroken tradition and history of Kokeshi Dolls. Kengo Kuma East Japan Project Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec Kokeshi Dolls are produced in collaboration with Kokeshi craftsmen from Fujisato Woodworks in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture and Ushikura-an in Karita County, Miyagi Prefecture. *East Japan Project / Ejp Products This is a Tohoku reconstruction assistance project led by architect Kengo Kuma. Various companies* and designers will collaborate with traditional craftsmen in eastern Japan beyond the boundaries of companies* and organizations to propose daily necessities that will enable new ecological and sustainable lifestyles. *Message from Kengo Kuma "We propose [a new lifestyle]. [A new life is a life rooted in place. Place is another name for a system in which climate, climate, industry, people, and everything else related to the land are blended together in the most natural way. However, that system was lost in the 20th century with the urban-centered society that sought efficiency and convenience. People prefer uniform products, and the products of a place have lost their power, and the name "traditional crafts" has been attached to them. 3.11 has brought this fact home to us. [The "new life" is a way of life that reverses the trend of the 20th century of continuous loss of place. Together with artisans in eastern Japan, we propose products for a "new life. These are not traditional handicrafts that are unusual and difficult to use, but rather "new daily necessities" that everyone uses in their daily lives. It is a tool for everyone to live with a place and participate in the great cycle called place." [ made in japan ] |

■East Japan Project / Ejp
