Description
Harue Oide(Author) How did [child protection] lead to [eugenic thought]? The transition from a project to a social project, and the turbulent 15 years up to 1942 during the Pacific War, are observed at a fixed point through the Sakai City Baby Judging Committee Commemorative Photo Album. The turbulent 15 years of the Sakai City Baby Screening Committee are observed from a fixed point through [Sakai City Baby Screening Committee Commemorative Photo Album *** This book consists of two parts: a reprint of a photo album documenting the [Baby Screening Committee] held in Sakai City, Osaka before World War II for the purpose of protecting infants, and a historical sociological discussion of the social background, players, and significance of this media * event. Through the rare documentary photographs and the discussion based on them, we will be able to understand the mobilization of people and the social changes that accompanied Japan's modernization and wartime regime. Specifically, through the activities to disseminate the concept of [hygiene] and [health] that accompanied modernization, and through the practices of midwives who became educators of modern childbirth and childcare, we will learn how people in prewar Japan acquired the concept of hygiene and made it their everyday knowledge, and what means the state and doctors used to achieve this. The role of midwives as mediators in this process will be examined. |
