| *Rinko Kawauchi [Early Works 1997]Mini Portfolio*. In 1997, Rinko Kawauchi won the Grand Prix in the photography division of the 9th Hitotsubo Exhibition (now 1_WALL), and the following year, 1998, she held a solo exhibition [Utatane] at Guardian*Garden in Tokyo. The works she had collected during the same period were the predecessors of her first photo book [Utatane] (2001), which has the same title, but most of them were not included in the book. This portfolio includes six photographs from the 1998 exhibition [Utatane] that have not yet been published in a book. These are the starting point of Kawauchi's career, but they also provide a glimpse of the foundation of his unique world of work, which has already begun to flourish in the world. *What is a collotype? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them in continuous tones, thus enabling the expression of fine details that are closer to the real thing, as in a photograph. The *Mini Portfolio Series is a series that focuses on size and set contents so that users can easily enjoy photographic works with the expressive power that only Collotype can offer. Each set contains 8 x 10" sheets of collotype prints that can be held in one's hand and admired one at a time, or framed as a beautiful addition to one's home décor. |
