| *Soreiyu*, founded by Junichi Nakahara, was a magazine that literally shone like the sun, offering young women a variety of suggestions on how to “live beautifully” amid the postwar scarcity of goods and bringing a ray of hope into their lives. Nakahara himself drew the covers and illustrations, which covered a remarkably wide range of topics—from clothing and fashion to hairstyles, interior design, step-by-step guides for making accessories, and even illustrations for novels. In an era when color pages were still a rarity, the majority of the illustrations were monochrome line drawings; however, his pen-and-ink work possesses a fluid and delicate quality reminiscent of shōjo manga. The sheer volume of these works is immense, with thousands of illustrations that have never been published in any of the related books released after Nakahara’s passing. Centered on *Soreiyu*, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary, this book is a carefully curated collection of original illustrations created primarily for magazines, with the majority of the included works appearing in book form for the first time. In this volume, signs of wear and tear due to the passage of time are presented as part of the original artwork’s character. You can also view in black and white the illustrations that were colorized according to color specifications and published in magazines. |

表紙や挿画は中原自らが描いていますが、その内訳は服飾ファッション、ヘアスタイル、インテリア、小物の作り方手順、小説の挿絵まで、実に多岐にわたります。まだカラーページが貴重だった時代で、大半はモノクロの線画ですが、ペンによる線描は少女漫画にも通じる流麗で繊細な味わいがあります。その数は膨大で、中原の没後に多数刊行された関連書籍に一度も掲載されたことがない挿画が数千点存在しています。
本書は創刊80周年を迎えた『それいゆ』を中心に、主に雑誌用に描かれた挿画の原画から厳選した作品集で、収録作品の大半が単行本初掲載となります。本書では経年変化による傷み汚れも原画の風合いとしてそのまま掲載。色指定でカラー化して雑誌に掲載された挿画もモノクロでご覧いただけます。
