Description
Seiho Takeuchi is known as the Seiho of the West and Taikan of the East in the modern world of Japanese painting. When the Order of Cultural Merit was established in 1937, Takeuchi Seiho was selected as the first recipient along with Taikan. The establishment of a new style of Japanese painting was a major issue in the Kyoto art world during the Meiji period. Seiho was a modern Japanese painter who, based on the traditional techniques and sensibilities of the Maruyama*Shijo School, was able to incorporate new techniques and theories from Western painting. Seiho's work was an immortal achievement in the modernization of Japanese-style painting. This collection of Seiho's works from museums across Japan presents a selection of his masterpieces that sublimate a light, elegant, and naturalistic style. Seiho's art, which sublimated a light and elegant sense of nature, has been collected from museums all over Japan and introduced here. Excerpt from the foreword by Shigemitsu Hirano, former chief curator of the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art |
