日本語学習者のための、楽しく学べる漢字練習帳
I wrote this book as part of the Easy and Fun series after the hiragana and katakana books from that set. I imagine that most people who are reading this book as part of their Japanese studies also feel that the kanji writing system is by far the hardest part of learning the Japanese language.
There are several reasons: the number of unique kanji is huge; they have complicated shapes; there are many ways to pronounce them; writing them is tricky.
Japanese natives learn the characters slowly over a period of many years from elementary school (or even earlier) all the way through high school. Japanese children practice reading and writing kanji every day at school then work on them even more as part of their homework.
I think that many people who are learning Japanese as a secondary language are hesitant to study kanji because of this substantial time investment. That’s why for this book I devised a faster method that differs from how Japanese natives approach kanji learning.
Since grade schools in Japan teach kanji in order of difficulty starting with the easiest the characters needed for daily life (which are surprisingly difficult to memorize) are not learned until later making that learning method unsuitable for foreigners who are staying in the country for a relatively short period of time.
This book instead presents the basic kanji alongside selected characters that are widely used in daily life while helping you become familiar with how they actually appear in the real world. I’ve also included some fun drawings that may serve as hints to help you remember the different kanji.
This book will make memorizing kanji a more fun and enjoyable process for you.
